Find yourself waiting in line at Starbucks and the kids are bored? That’s right! Kids can learn anywhere! Take a look around and see what pictures are on the wall. Call attention to them and ask your child what they notice. If they’re too young for a two way conversation, point out to them what you see. Give them the words and describe the shapes to help them build vocabulary and make connections. As they get older challenge their thinking to guess what’s in the picture, or what else it might look like. For example in this picture it at first looks like some grapes or berries, but really they are coffee beans. Most Starbucks have some kind of coffee bean picture on the wall, although they vary in terms of it being a painting, a photo or abstract art. Take a look and let the brain neurons begin sparking new thinking and learning.
